On Thursday, April 18th, Bishop Amat Baseball boys had their annual senior night against La Salle. With Amat being 1st in the Del Rey league and La Salle being 2nd it was an exhilarating and frustrating game.
Starting the second inning La
Salle was able to get on the board with a single. It wasn’t until the fourth inning when Amat had their first run making the score 2-1.
When the score was 4-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning Jacob Campos hit a sacrifice fly allowing one run to score. Raymond Perez hit a double making the score even at 4-4.
Near the bottom of the eighth inning, the two teams were tied 4-4 when Gabriel Guerrero walked up to the plate. Guerrero then singled, scoring the winning run for his team and walking it off in dramatic fashion with a 5-4 Bishop Amat win.
Lefty pitcher Justin Peinado stepped up on the hill for Amat to start the game. He had allowed two runs over five innings, striking out two, and walking two. Daniel Albidrez had finished the game and earned the win for the Lancers. Albidrez refused any hits or runs over one inning.
With this win against La Salle the Bishop Amat Lancers will travel to play Temple City on Monday, April 22nd, 2024.
