Bishop Amat Boys Basketball had no trouble against Salesian High School on Wednesday with a score of 66-44.
The team now stands 21-7 overall and 2nd place in the Camino Real league behind St. Monica.
The boys had their senior night and the school honored all four of their seniors; Kaulana Mo’okini, Mario Duenas, Matthew Rodrigues and Marcos Gonzales.
Mario “Tundra” Duenas had a standout performance with his first taste of playing time, he surely showed he belongs on the court.
“I’ve been playing basketball my whole life and ever since I was a freshman I was looking forward to this day,” Duenas said.
The boys were up by 20 points in the 4th quarter with 2 minutes and 36 seconds to go. Coach Ertle signals one of the bench players to get ready to be subbed in. Once they realize who is about to enter the game, the crowd is on their feet chanting “TUNDRA! TUNDRA! TUNDRA!”. Mario steps on the court and the energy in the building is ecstatic. After waiting four years for an opportunity, “Tundra” wasted no time racking up points. He ended the game with 11 points and 4 assists.
“Great energy, maybe the greatest energy I ever had in a game like ever. And it was great,” said the senior.
