After seven books and six movies, the world is still in love with the boy who lived.
“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” the seventh and final movie of the megafranchise, directed by David Yates and produced by Warner Bros. Studios, will be released in two parts with the first being released Thursday at midnight.
The highly anticipated first part of the movie begins with Harry, Ron and Hermione pursuing a dangerous mission to track down and destroy the secret to Voldemort’s immortality and destruction: the Horcruxes.
Worldwide, fans are excited for the movie and are counting the days away until it is released.
“Harry potter is fantastic. The end,” said sophomore Morgan Grana, who prepared for the upcoming release by rereading the seventh book. “I’m very excited for the midnight [release].”
Sophomore Billy Carmouche said he’s been anticipating the movie since 2008, the year “Deathly Hallows” was published.
“I’m really excited,” Carmouche said. “Ever since I finished the last book I already couldn’t wait for the movie.”
Junior Jonathon Santos and sophomore Oliver Flores said they like the decision to split the movie into two parts because the directors won’t have to cut vital parts from the book.
However, some students, like Carmouche, feel bittersweet about the two-part division.
“When I heard it was going to be a two part movie, I was both happy and disappointed,” he said. “Happy because I know it will be really good since they put a lot of time on it, but disappointed because I have to wait longer for part two.”
With the first movie released in 2001, and the first book published in the United States in 1999, many fans have grown up with Harry Potter and his loyal friends, Hermione and Ron, and are sad to see it come to an end.
“I’m sad it’s ending,” Grana said. “It’s like losing something you grew up with, like baby teeth.”
Although fans are sad to see it come to an end, they said they believe the magical world will never be forgotten and will continue to touch people’s hearts for generations to come.
“After the books and movies are done, it will always be there,” she said. “It won’t fade.”
Carmouche said “Harry Potter” has lasting power.
“It will never fade from people’s minds,” he said. “Harry Potter is huge. It even has it’s own theme park. I think ‘Twilight’ will fade.”
With the enormous amount of success the “Harry Potter” franchise achieved, it will be hard for any other future franchise to beat.
“Harry Potter set the standards and set the image for all other movies and books,” Flores said.
